Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are available to students from the Balmoral School Scholarship Fund. (Download PDF scholarship application.) Application deadline is May 1. Criteria for selection includes competitive successes, age (preference is given to younger applicants), contributions to piping, performance experience, etc. A letter of recommendation from a teacher is required with the application. Scholarship awards, usually $75 to $150, vary according to talent, need, and the location of the school. Balmoral School supporters are encouraged to make tax-exempt contributions to the Balmoral School Scholarship Fund for worthy students.

The St. Andrew’s Society of Pittsburgh awards scholarships of up to $150 for Pittsburgh area residents 21 years of age and under. Download the committee chairman's letter + guidelines + application + teacher recommendation form from the society's scholarship page. Application deadline is April 18.

The St. Andrew’s Society of New Hampshire awards the Bertha McDonald Scholarship to piping and drumming students. (Download PDF student application + sponsor form.) Application deadline is March 15.

The Clan Munro Association, USA, offers $250 scholarships for piping and drumming students 18 years of age and under. (Download PDF scholarship application.) Application deadline is March 31.

The New Hampshire Highland Games accepts applications from pipers and drummers in the eastern US. (Download DOC scholarship application.) Application deadline is April 10. For more information, contact NHGSC Scholarship Fund.

Additional scholarship are available from The Clan MacDougall Society of North America and The Sage Foundation. Students are encouraged to apply to other scholarship sources such as local clans and St. Andrew’s societies.
